You have probably heard that if you practice something for 21 days it will become a habit. The good news is - it is true ! It is how tour brain works.
When you are learning music the parts of the brain that are needed to help you learn start becoming stronger. As you practice more those neurons start recruiting other neurons around it to help you with your learning.
In about 2 weeks the pattern is established and the brain starts helping you and reenforcing that skill.
This works not only by doing something but also when you observing something repeatedly. I read a disturbing article recently that states the video gaming generation is more comfortable killing someone in combat than previous generations (that often faltered when they had to kill the enemy).
The brain is a complex muscle, but for our purposes we need to be aware of two parts (for the most part). The pre-frontal cortex (the part that sits right behind our forehead) and the Lymbic system. The Lymbic System controls our basic instincts like fear, anger, hunger, etc. It is what is most active when we are born. The pre-frontal cortex is the seat of creativity, peace, love, empathy and other universal qualities. It sometimes referred to as a spiritual eye or the astral eye.
When we practice meditation, we are exercising the pre-frontal cortex part this strengthens the qualities and faculty - and the stronger this becomes the lesser is the impact of the Lymbic system. We shift from being reactive to be being reflective.
